COLOR CHANGE FAQ

What is a color change wrap?

Color change wraps are the quickest, easiest and most affordable way to customize the color and style of your vehicle. Color change wraps allow you to temporarily change the color of your vehicle with no damage to the OEM paint underneath.

Most color change wraps cover the painted surface area that is visible while all the doors and the trunk are closed. Areas such as doorjambs, are typically not wrapped as part of a standard color change but can certainly be covered at an additional cost.

COST

The pricing varies per vehicle depending on several factors:

  • Condition of vehicle's paint - Is your paint peeling, faded or has any rust?
  • The type of film use
  • Disassembly required
  • Original color of the vehicle
  • Modification - is your vehicle lifted? Additional aftermarket parts?
  • Vehicle size and shape

A 50% deposit is required prior to ordering your film and to lock in your appointment.

When inquiring, please state year/make/model/photos of your vehicle and if there are any imperfections on the paint.

WARRANTY

Proven Auto offers a 90-day limited warranty on installation and workmanship (peeling, bubbling or lifting). Vinylwrap warranty is through the manufacturer of the film. Life expectancy of a premium color change wrap varies depending on manufacturer, color, finish etc. If the wrap begins to change color rapidly, darkening or cracking, it should be removed immediately.

Maintenance

Most vehicle wraps require same level of care as a traditional paint job and should be washed regularly using a clean sponge or soft wash cloth. Wraps with a different finish (satin or matte), require special attention since they can stain easily. We recommend applying Nano Technology Coating to matte finishes to help preserve their appearance.

We recommend to handwash your vehicle and to avoid automatic car washes which may be too rough on the material. Do not use pressure washers or any abrasive chemicals and equipment to wash the wrap. A standard car wash soap with no wax works perfectly fine or look for low ph neutral shampoo.

In order to preserve the wrap as long as possible, it is best to avoid excessive amounts of time under the sun or other outdoor elements. If you must park it outside for prolonged periods, look for shady parking areas or use a car cover.

When cleaning your wrap, AVOID the following:

  • Solvents
  • Oil based cleaners
  • Kitchen & Bathroom Cleaners
  • Oven cleaner
  • Orange Oil
  • Engine Degreaser

Note: Proven Auto sells specific wrap shampoo and wrap refresh to help keep your vinyl hydrated. Keeping it hydrated is key.

How long does a vehicle wrap last?

The lifespan of high quality films are up to 7-10 years and standard films are up to 5 years. There is no straight forward answer to this questions but overall most high quality films will last 5-7 years while standard films normally last around 2-3 years. This may vary depending on care. One thing we do highly recommend for optimal results and longer durability is to Ceramic Coat your wrap. This adds an extra layer of UV protection as well as making it easier to maintain.

If the wrap begins to change color rapidly, darkening or cracking, it should be removed immediately.

Can you wrap a vehicle with paint imperfection, scratches or dents?

Yes, but for best results, it is normally recommended by wrap film manufacturers that the vehicle being wrapped is in great condition. However, it does not mean you're unable to wrap your vehicle. In fact, most vehicles that we wrap have minor imperfections such as rock chips and scratches.  If imperfections are present, you will still see it through the film since it is basically a sticker over your paint but many times, it is not noticeable.

For absolute best results, we recommend getting repairs taken care of before wrapping. Vehicles with paint peeling or fading will need to be sanded to a smooth surface before applying the vinyl, Proven Auto provides this service for additional cost.

Do vehicle wraps damage your paint?

The answer to this question really comes down to the condition of the paint on the vehicle. If the paint on the vehicle isn't in great condition or the vehicle has been previously repainted (especially poorly), there is a great chance of paint damage/ paint peeling at removal.

How to prepare your vehicle for wrapping

We ask that the vehicle be washed atleast 24 hours prior to the appointment date with dawn soap. For the vinyl to adhere properly, all dirt, grime or grease on the body must be cleaned throughly, such as:

  • Under wheel whels
  • Under the hood
  • Every surface of the car that can be accessed, even if it’s not being wrapped, like the windows and glass
  • Seams between panels, headlights, taillights, bezels, etc.

Do not use car shampoo with waxes or tire shine. They can interfere with the vinyl wrap's ability to adhere properly.

If you prefer to have Proven Auto pre-wash your vehicle, there will be an additional charge.

PROCESS

Once at our facility, the prep process begins. We wash the vehicle one last time to remove any dirt, grime, or grease. We start by removing any trims and/or bumpers, headlights, taillights, door handles etc. The entire vehicle is wiped down to remove any loose dirt or dust, (followed with a clay bar for additional charge if needed; for best result) to ensure that the surface is fully prepped and has no tar or road grime. Lastly, Proven Auto prep the entire vehicle with Isopropyl alcohol and begin wrapping!

Typically, a full color change takes 4-7 days to complete but times can vary depending on materials used, disassembly required, etc.
